OPEN STM IM
IM stands for "Ingress Monitor".
Ingress is the dominant problem that operators of two-way services are struggling with most today. This is not only because of the noise funneling effect of the return path, but also because of the inexperience of dealing with ingress and the return spectrum on a daily basis. Most of the technicians are finding the return path a strange and delicate network with many complications. In the forward path, proper carrier-to-noise (CNR) levels provide for clear picture quality and transmission quality degrades with rise in the noise level. However, in the world of the return path, the effect of high levels of noise and ingress, or low CNR, may not be noticed until they completely destroy transmission network or drastically slow down network performance.
OPEN STM IM is an ingress monitoring software which monitors the upstream port of existing CMTS for 24 hours and 7 days continuously. By utilizing the existing CMTS, and with the combination of ATT type BGS (Bridger gate switch) the operator can accurately, quickly and remotely identify the fault in the upstream transmission that troubles the service.
IM has real-time alerts based on customizable statistic thresholds and changes hence when any fault occurs, IM's Alarm list displays the fault, enabling the network manager to drill down to the individual monitor and determine the nature of the fault. IM is a completely automatic system which, after identifying the noise source can guide for emergency measures.
IM accurately characterize HFC network and service performance through historical reports and trend analysis by gaining a single, unified view of quality from network, service and customer perspectives hence an operator can offer VoIP with high reliability and low cost by automatic monitoring function of 24 hours and 7 days without being worried about the maintenance during holiday or late night hours. Further upgrade is possible by integrating with other company's noise source search monitoring software.
